The Reality of Crime - The Impact, Influence and Empathy beyond "True Crime"

True Crime is a "hit genre" globally, for people seeking entertainment through a vast array of documentaries and podcasts. What the "production" of true crime often lacks is a focus on stopping and considering the impact of such crimes on victims and their families. While most spotlight the crimes, few choose to grapple with the legality of court outcomes, and whether justice has been served. After their first 12 months of broadcasting about the "reality of crime", the team behind the multi award-winning Just Lawful Podcast look back at the lives affected - and improved - by their coverage. They discuss their impact so far, what future improvements could be made to the legal system, what better outcomes could be generated for victims and the effect of applying empathy and education to entertainment. While looking back, they also look forward to the potential scrutiny and challenges to come.
