Power, Politics, and Profit: The High-Stakes Game of Global Business
Do sanctions stop companies from engaging in international trade? The simple answer is “no.” While such measures can destabilise both home and host business environments, multinational corporations have always found alternative ways to engage in international trade and so have firms from the countries imposing the restrictions. This is not surprising, given the significant profits at stake and the fact that many businesses are largely insulated from these disruptions. Over time, they have built up a wealth of experience, skills, knowledge, and international connections, allowing them to navigate around sanctions by forging ties with influential actors and playing the political game.
