Calling for the Green Revolution 2.0

Global food security is jeopardised by the increasing severity and frequency of drought and flooding events and progressive soil salinisation that result in over $180Bn in annual losses to the agricultural sector. By incorporating abiotic tolerance traits present in wild ancestors but lost during the domestication process, breeders and growers can minimize this burden and develop new generations of stress-resilient crops.

Bio

Sergey is a Chair in Plant Physiology in the School of Biological Sciences at The University of Western Australia. With a research focus on stress physiology of plants and the mechanisms plants adopt for hostile conditions, Sergey has discovered many new genes which are critical for plant breeders in driving sustainable agriculture.
