It’s kind of embarrassing isn’t it? Thinking and talking about your bowels? It’s kind of gross, actually. But what if I told you that we are slowly discovering that your bowel is not just plumbing. It is much, MUCH more. We don’t know everything yet, but we do know that your bowel contains an entire living ecosystem, with its own BRAIN, that independently controls everything about you: from your mood, appetite, weight, and happiness in general! So, come along to hear how your bowel works and what makes it incredibly special.

BIO

Tarik is a colorectal surgeon at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, and an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Adelaide. He became a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) in 2012. Tarik undertook two years of accredited post-fellowship training in colorectal surgery and has been under the mentorship of leading surgeons at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

Tarik has authored over 80 peer reviewed publications in surgical journals, and 6 book chapters. Having completed a PhD in Surgery in 2011, he continues to pursue an active research program, focusing specifically on clinical trials to improve patient outcomes after colorectal surgery.
