What's good about suffering?

The history of literature and philosophy is full of discussions about the role of suffering in life. Is suffering ever good for people? Is suffering a requirement for insight and wisdom? This lecture uses ancient literature and early modern philosophy to show that a certain amount of suffering is good for you. In other words, your life needs to suck sometimes.
